Flowing Water
Wilderness Society www.wildernesssociety.org

In president Bill Meadows words, The WS has challenged itself to find a way to change the political dynamics that determine management of our government’s Bureau of Land Management lands. For every BLM  monument in existence tdoay, there is its equal in another place...or ten...with no protection at all. The Wilderness Society is adamant that we shall not lose these gems simply because no one knew they were there. These lands offer the greatest opportunities for adding to the National Wilderness Preservation System as it approaches its 40th birthday. Many BLM lands lie within states where there is nothing remotely approaching a conservation majority. In Utah and Wyoming , for example, congressional delegations have mainly sided with the extractive and off-road industries and against wildland protection. WS is not so naïve as to think they can build a conservation majority in these states any time soon, but are optimistic that they can give greater voice to a conservation minority in many. Help them protect our wilderness!
